As we embark on the 2026-2027 school year, I’d like to first thank you for entrusting us with the education of your children.  We are thrilled to welcome both you and them back for another year. 

Celebrations:

Even though we are starting a new year, it is sometimes nice to celebrate some of the accomplishments from last year.  Specifically, Munster High School can proudly

share the following information:

We will try to build upon these achievements as we move into this school year, and we likely need your help. 

Get Involved:

I would like to personally encourage all students to get involved in at least one extracurricular activity and/or sport this coming year.  Joining clubs and sports allows students to meet new friends who share similar interests while exploring

their passions.  Sometimes, students even find their passions in these settings surrounded by their clubmates and teammates.  High school will fly by quickly, and participation will make this year more meaningful.  Help us by encouraging your students to attend athletic competitions, school dances, plays, and concerts.  These events are better when they are packed with MHS students!

Try Your Hardest Academically:

I want to also encourage all students to try their hardest from the start of the school year.  Help your students to find a course that causes them to stretch themselves academically and socially.  If it proves to be challenging, encourage them to ask for help from peers, teachers, and counselors.  Munster High School is filled with adults who want to see your students successful.  We never know our true abilities until we test ourselves.  We want students to speak up in class, partner with commitment, and develop alongside us. 

Communication:

I’d like to encourage all families to have the age-old conversation about what happened at school today.  Everyone leads busy lives, but it is worth slowing down for just a few moments to see what your student learned and what your child experienced at school.  It’s okay to laugh with them about the funny things that happened at school.  Embrace their lingo even halfheartedly. But seriously, talk with them about what they are reading and learning about.  Have them define a character from English, explain an era from history, and even demonstrate a math problem.   Reinforce for them that learning is part of the culture that we are all sharing together.  And if things get challenging, as they undoubtedly do at times, help us to make the best decisions on behalf of your students.  Be a parent to them and a partner with us.  We all have the same goal in mind: the success of your students.

Be Proud:

Please find moments over the coming months to be proud of your students.  Embrace that they are willing to take risks.  Acknowledge when they are putting in extra effort.  Console when disappointment finds them, but encourage them to rise again.  Celebrate not just their accomplishments but also their quiet efforts.  Be proud as they find and develop their voices and help them to continue striving. 

Munster is truly a unique community and school system.  Many have relocated to this community because of the shared belief in the power of education.  And many more have remained in and returned to this community because they have seen the value of bringing like-minded families together around the table of Education–where there is a seat for everyone.  I would like to think that all families seek opportunities for their children, and Munster High School can extend those opportunities if students are willing to trust and take that first step.  And if they are nervous, we’ll help them!

Again, thank you for sharing your students with us.  It is an honor and privilege to serve in a community like this and on behalf of a school like Munster!
